A 27-year-old Croton-on-Hudson man, whose name was not released for safety reasons, was charged in connection with a fatal crash that happened on Route 9 southbound that left Peekskill resident Rich “Butt” Lent, Jr. dead, Croton Police announced on Thursday, July 27.
On the day of the crash, Saturday, July 15, Lent had been riding his motorcycle when he was struck by a vehicle at just after 2:30 p.m. The incident caused his motorcycle to go up in flames, according to the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department.
At first, investigators believed that Lent's motorcycle had been the only vehicle involved in the crash. However, while combing over the scene of the incident, authorities found what appeared to be pieces of a side view mirror from an unknown vehicle that might have been involved.
By using these pieces, the department was able to identify the suspect vehicle on Monday, July 17. Within an hour, officers were able to find this vehicle, and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Croton Police were helped at the scene by both Westchester County Police and New York State Police.
The suspect was remanded on a $5,000 bail, which he since posted.
